Daniel Gehrt currently works as Research Leader Innovation, Health and Science at RAND Europe. The research underlying this article was conducted in the context of an EU-funded project titled ‘European Leadership in Cultural, Science and Innovation Diplomacy’ (EL-CSID), in which Daniel Gehrt was involved as part of his previous position at the Joint Institute for Innovation Policy (JIIP). His original academic background is in the field of European Studies and International Relations.
Analysing S&T cooperation between the EU and China in the field of solar PV, the article concludes that the concept of science diplomacy is difficult to pursue in a relatively mature technological domain, with clear commercial interests at stake.
